Residential Duplex Structure Fire in Monterey

Monterey Fire Department responded to a residential duplex structure fire at 10:56 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in the 400 block of Del Rosa Avenue in Monterey. On arrival, fire crews found a working fire with heavy fire in the living room. Crews were able to contain the fire to the room of origin and kept fire from spreading. Fire crews remained on scene overnight.

The residence sustained significant fire and structural damage with an initial estimated loss set at approximately $400,000. The fire displaced one resident and killed a cat. The American Red Cross provided direct assistance to the displaced resident. Monterey Police, the Monterey Building Official, Seaside Fire, and Monterey CERT assisted with the incident. A total of 23 firefighters were committed to the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation but not considered suspicious.
