- UPDATE August 17, 2023: Monterey Peninsula Airport District Board approved a new five year contract for fire services with the Monterey Fire Department. Monterey City Council passed a resolution for the same at the August 1, 2023 City Council meeting. The Monterey Fire Department has served the Monterey Regional Airport since 2014. The new contract will start on October 1, 2023. At the same time, Monterey Fire will move to a new fire station located on the north side of the airport. Apparatus stationed there include three Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF), specially-designed fire trucks specific for putting out aircraft fires. The current fire station on the south side will be replaced with airport upgrades.
