Cannery Row Days 2024

Discover the Stories Behind Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat
April 18 - May 11, 2024

Tortilla Flat Flyer (2)Considered John Steinbeck's first critical and commercial success, Tortilla Flat (1935) is an early John Steinbeck novel set in Monterey, California. The book tells the story of Tortilla Flat - the fictional town based on several neighborhoods in Monterey - and a few of its more colorful characters, a multicultural group of errant friends referred to as paisanos.

This year's Cannery Row Days will go beyond the page, highlighting the real people, places and stories behind Steinbeck's novel. Join us for both in-person and Zoom lectures, a walking tour, basketweaving, a special screening of Victor Fleming's 1942 adaptation of Steinbeck's novel, and much more.

Space is limited, so make sure to register for these events early!
