Monterey 250 is a yearlong celebration in coordination with the 250th anniversary of the founding of Monterey on June 3, 1770. Throughout the year 2020 we will celebrate Monterey’s unique history through ongoing cultural activities, events, and festivities to commemorate this historic occasion.

The S/V "Maiden" competed in an around-the-world sailing race in 1989-1990 that featured a first-time all-female crew. Sony Pictures recently released a full-length feature film telling the story of the 26-year-old Captain Tracy Edwards MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) and the incredible journey by her and her crew. The S/V "Maiden" is visiting Monterey on Thursday, October 10 through Saturday, October 12, 2019 on the guest dock at the end of Old Fisherman's Wharf (California Dock) as part of a California tour. “Come step into history” as the community celebrates this year’s Historic Monterey History Fest on October 12-13, 2019. This annual celebration spotlights Monterey’s history through a variety of tours, reenactments, demonstrations, exhibits, and activities at various locations around the historic Old Town downtown corridor and its Islands of Adobes. The Custom House and Pacific House will be open to the public, and free tours will be available throughout the weekend. Rarely seen adobes, like Casa Serrano and the House of the Four Winds will open their doors. Hidden treasures from a wide variety of institutions, such as the Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library, will be displayed.
