On December 11th, 2017 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Monterey Police Patrol Officers conducted a pro-active foot patrol along the waterfront area of downtown Monterey. While on Wharf 2, officers contacted several subjects near a vehicle. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of 21-years-old Jonathan Garate of Castroville for possession of a stolen handgun. The handgun had been reported stolen from a residence in the City of Pacific Grove in November, 2017.
The City of Monterey is proud to announce that it has implemented a pharmaceutical drug take back program that is now available to the public. The public may safely and anonymously dispose of unused/expired prescription or over-the-counter medication through the City's Prescription Drug Drop Box Program. No needles, syringes or liquids are accepted.
The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) is currently investigating a string of armed robberies.
On November 29th, 2017 at 1:27am, two unidentified males committed an armed robbery of the Motel 6 located at 140 Kern St, Salinas. At 5:27am, a second robbery was committed at the 7-11 located at 320 Reservation Rd, Marina. At 6:52am, a third robbery was committed at the 76 gas station, 1600 Fremont Blvd, Seaside. Each robbery was committed by the same suspects. The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team is looking for any information leading to the identity of the suspects in the attached photographs.
The Monterey Police Department (MPD) is pleased to announce the pledge to take action in support of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) “One Mind Campaign,” with the intent to unite local communities, public safety organizations, and mental health organizations in such a way that all become “of one mind.”

The City Council Study Session meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street. Meetings are broadcast live on the Monterey Channel and streamed on the web. Study session meetings are used to provide information to the City Council and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items.
