The Monterey City Council is encouraging residents of Skyline Ridge and Downtown Monterey to apply to serve on the Neighborhood Improvement Program Committee for these unrepresented neighborhoods.

The City of Monterey's commitment to healthy eating and active living has taken a step further in the New Year. Monterey has joined with more than 180 cities throughout California in the Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Cities Campaign. The HEAL Cities Campaign aims to reduce and prevent obesity by engaging municipal leaders to champion healthy eating and active living in their communities through adoption of policy and promotion of opportunities for residents and municipal employees.

Are you creative, responsible, enthusiastic, enjoy being around children and working outdoors? If your answer is yes, we have the perfect summer job for you! Applications for Day Camp Counselors, Playground Leaders, Resident Camp Cook, Resident Camp Counselors, Resident Camp Support Staff, and Field Sports Recreation Leaders are now being accepted at the Monterey Recreation office. Applicants need to be 16 years of age or older. Application deadline is Friday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m. All applicants will be invited to a group leader assessment interview on Saturday, March 24, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Employment will begin in June. Those hired must be able to work the entire summer.

The City Council Study Session meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 580 Pacific Street. Meetings are broadcast live on the Monterey Channel and streamed on the web. Study session meetings are used to provide information to the City Council and answer their questions to clarify issues. Study Sessions provide a setting for informal discussions between staff, consultants, board, commission, committee members and the City Council regarding specific programs, projects or policies. Council does not take formal action on the items.
