Reserve a Park or Group BBQ Area

Reserve a BBQ/Picnic Area
Many of Monterey's beautiful parks offer group BBQ/picnic areas available for your private use. Reservations are made by purchasing a BBQ/Picnic Facility Use Permit.
It's easy – just follow the steps below:
  1. Review the list of parks below that offer BBQ/Picnic areas. Contact Monterey Recreation at montereyrecreation@monterey.org or 831.646.3866 to check availability for the date of your gathering.
  2. If you are interested in reserving a group site for day use at Veteran’s Memorial Park, please email the Veteran's Memorial Park BBQ/Picnic Facility Use Permit Application to the Park Attendant at makowski@monterey.org.
  3. If the park you are interested in lists Monterey Recreation as the location to purchase a permit, you have several options. You may download a BBQ/Picnic Facility Use - Jump House/Inflatable Permit Application, fill it in completely and legibly and email it to montereyrecreation@monterey.org (preferred) or mail it to the Monterey Recreation - El Estero Park Center at 777 Pearl Street, Monterey, CA. Once we receive your application and confirm that the area is available we will process your permit and email/mail it to you.
Permit Fees
Jump House Permits
  1. Review the list of parks below that allow jump houses/inflatables and follow the steps listed above.
  2. A current list of jump house vendors who have satisfied the City insurance requirements and are eligible to do business in City parks is available on page 3 of the BBQ/Picnic Facility Use - Jump House/Inflatable Permit Application. Privately owned Jump Houses/Inflatables may not be used on City property.
  3. A Jump House Permit and BBQ/Picnic Facility Use Permit are required to use a jump house/inflatable device in City parks. Jump House Permits are not available without the purchase of a BBQ/Picnic Facility Use Permit which reserves the group BBQ/Picnic area. Please complete and return the BBQ/Picnic Facility Use - Jump House/Inflatable Permit Application to reserve your date. 
  4. No climbing walls or water toys, e.g. waterslides or Slip 'N Slides, are allowed in the parks.
Volleyball Court Rentals
Volleyball Courts at Monterey Bay Park, Laguna Grande Park and Montecito Park are available for rental. Volleyball Court Rentals are processed by request with Monterey Recreation. You may download a BBQ/Picnic Facility Use - Jump House/Inflatable Permit Application, fill it in completely and legibly and email it to montereyrecreation@monterey.org. Once we receive your application and confirm that the area is available we will process your permit and email/mail it to you. Reservation Policies

  • All reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • For most organized activities and intermediate size gatherings of 10 or more we ask that you obtain a Park Picnic Permit. Based on the activities you have planned and the number of participants you expect, an event permit may be required. 
  • BBQ/Picnic Facility Use Permits and Jump House Permits for Veteran's Memorial Park are made on site or by emailing the Park Attendant at makowski@monterey.org.
  • Reservations can not be made by telephone.
  • Reservations are for the group BBQ/picnic area only - the park remains open the the public.
  • One permit per day is issued for each group BBQ/picnic area. Permit allows access between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
  • Alcohol is permitted in the BBQ/picnic area only. No glass bottles are allowed.
  • A refundable key deposit is required for Whispering Pines park. Keys must be picked up and returned to the Monterey Recreation - El Estero Park Center, 777 Pearl Street, Monterey next to Dennis the Menace Playground.
