Parking Enforcement Officer ( Hourly Range: $22.48 - $27.35) - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Controls the parking of motor vehicles; issues parking citations in metered and unmetered zones, along City streets and wharves, in municipal parking lots and structures and Conference Center area; controls traffic entering City wharves; operates a three-wheel scooter; answers complaints regarding meters or citations; provides general assistance to motorists and information to tourists; notifies the Police Department of abandoned vehicles and law enforcement problems; may assist police with traffic at the scene of an accident; may assist with booting vehicles. Must be available for weekend, holiday, evening and shift work.

Parking Facility Attendant - (Hourly Range: $16.01 - $19.49 ) - Provide Customer Support to motorists in City parking facilities; operates automatic revenue control equipment;; provides security in parking facilities by observing activities and patrolling in facilities; provides general assistance and information to motorists; may assist in traffic control and litter pick-up in and around parking facilities and other related duties as required; may make minor repairs to parking equipment. Must be available for weekend, holiday, evening and shift work. Work is performed outdoors with exposure to inclement weather and around moving vehicles. Must possess a valid California's Driver's License upon time of appointment and be insurable with the City's standard insurance rate, unless otherwise approved by appointing authority.

Free Trolley

/Portals/0/News/ResParking-Program-Recording.pngThe trolley is back! This free service will operate from July 3 to September 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Park once in our Downtown and Cannery Row garages or the Waterfront lot and get a free ride to all of yor favorite attractions, including the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Downtown Monterey and Old Fisherman's Wharf. Avoid the hassles of driving to each location and finding places to park - let the trolley give you a fast, convenient and FREE ride. Look for the green MST Trolley signs to board along the route.

The City of Monterey Parking Division is in the process of revising the resident parking program and they want to hear from you. The April 14 meeting provided some context, overall program objectives, and focused on resident feedback about parking challenges to help improve the program to better serve the residents.

We have made extensive enhancements to physical infrastructure and technology to improve user experience for residents and visitors using our parking garages, lots, and street parking. The City of Monterey operates 31 parking facilities with approximately 3,500 off-street parking spaces. Our facilities range from 10-space parking lots to the 1003-space Cannery Row Parking Garage. For your convenience parking lots and garages are located throughout the City. Affordable, safe and clean parking is never more than a few blocks away from where you want to be! In addition to off-street parking spaces, there are over 3,000 on-street spaces in the Downtown, Cannery Row and Lighthouse areas of the City.

The City's parking management program is designed to improve parking and traffic flow in our City. The Parking Division works with businesses, residents, institutions and visitors alike to meet their diverse parking needs. We count on the support and cooperation of everyone to make our parking management program a success and to enhance pedestrian safety, smooth traffic flow and to allow public transit and emergency vehicles to reach their destinations. The Parking Division operates under the Public Works Department.

The Parking Division now accepts online credit card payments to renew your parking permit. You will need your account number, which is located on your invoice, to register. Permits renewed online must be renewed by the last calendar day of the month.

Payments received after the grace period for Downtown East Garage, Downtown West Garage and Cannery Row Garage will not be renewed. Please call the Parking Division Office, (831) 646-3953, for reactivation and payment.

Grace Period: The time a permit will be honored after its expiration
Monthly Permit: Two (2) business days
Quarterly Permit: Five (5) business days
Annual Permit: Ten (10) business days

Parking citations may be paid by personal check, money order or credit card (convenience fee charged). Instructions for each option are listed below. To contest your parking citation, you must follow the Administrative Review Process.
