08/15/2017: Vehicle Collision

On 8/15/17 at 12:18 AM, a single vehicle collision occurred in the 2100 block of Del Monte.  The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Del Monte when it left the roadway and struck a low wall.  The resultant damage to the vehicle caused it to immediately catch fire with the sole occupant driver still inside.

08/15/2017: Pacific Street Exit from Lighthouse to Close for Measure P ADA and Street Reconstruction, Sep. 6 through Oct. 6

The Pacific Street off-ramp from Lighthouse Avenue will be closed from Wednesday, September 6th through Friday, October 6th. The full closure affects the Pacific Street exit from Lighthouse up to the pedestrian overhead bridge.

The City of Monterey welcomes photo submissions in their first city-wide photo contest. Participants are encouraged to submit photos in any of the three categories; environment - sky, beach, mountain, park and wildlife; architecture - urban design, cityscapes, landmarks and infrastructure; and culture & community - people of all ages involved in sports, art activities and enjoying special events.

The City of Monterey will be accepting applications for a Mid-Year Special Event Grant Program until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 for events scheduled during Fiscal Year 2017-2018 (Sep 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018).

  • MEASURE P: ADA Ramp and Street Reconstruction Phase 5 - Work expected into early March in Old Town, specifically one block of Larkin Street and two blocks of Watson Street -SEE MAP
  • Pacific Street Sidewalk Reconstruction Phase 2 - 1100 block - See Project Info - Work expected to last into early Dec. (NIP)
  • MEASURE P STREETS: Citywide Street Resurfacing/Slurry Phase 5 - Currently markings, striping, and additional cleanup to complete.
  • Wharf II Pile Replacement & Repair - Critical repairs continue. Completion expected some time in December. (CIP)
  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Installation of the new 36” water pipeline continues on Fitch Avenue in the Presidio of Monterey on Friday, November 17, through Wed., Nov. 22 to complete the crossing of Kit Carson Road. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic controls and parking limitations will be posted. Work will suspend Thursday, November 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday and resume on Monday November 27. Nighttime construction work in downtown Monterey, which had been delayed due to the discovery of an unmarked, underground utility line, is expected to resume on Webster Street and Munras Avenue on the evening of Sunday, November 26, between the hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic controls will be posted.   • Monterey Bay Aquarium Education Center Construction (Non-City Project) Periodic and Brief Delays on Recreation Trail at Hoffman Avenue Weekdays, July 2017 to Fall 2018 - Work to close Hoffman between Cannery Row and Wave Street, tentatively scheduled for Nov.28, Dec. 5, and Dec. 11, weather permitting.
