RFP: Vulnerable Community Needs Analysis

The City of Monterey Housing Programs Office is seeking proposals to initiate an analysis to determine if there are gaps in service that may limit effectiveness of programs that are intended to serve extremely low, very low and low-income and other vulnerable populations. This analysis will be funded by the City’s Community Development Block Grant Program through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The successful applicant will be expected to complete the analysis and issue all deliverables by April 1, 2018. 

Deadline for submission is 4:00 p.m., November 30, 2017. Under no circumstances will late proposals be accepted.

The Monterey Community Band presents: “Music Makes the Holidays” Concert, conducted by Kristen Thompson. This concert features “Essay for Band” by Brent Heisinger, “Fifth Suite for Band” by Alfred Reed, “The Saint’s Hallelujah” arranged by Luther Henderson, “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson as well as other holiday tunes! The concert will be held at the Monterey Peninsula College Music Hall on Sunday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free. Come and enjoy an afternoon of musical entertainment for the whole family.

PG&E Better Together Giving Program Grant

The City of Monterey was awarded a $1,500 grant from the Pacific Gas and Electric Company Better Together Giving Program. The funds will be used to purchase portable carbon monoxide detectors and other emergency supplies.

On October 6th, 2017, the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team served a search warrant on Casanova Ave in Monterey. During the service of the search warrant, a handgun, several hundred rounds of ammunition, over four ounces of cocaine, a scale, packaging materials and over $12,000 cash were seized.

10/02/2017: Measure P Project on Pacific Street Reopening Delayed

The Measure P ADA Ramp and Street Reconstruction Phase 4 work at the Pacific Street exit from Lighthouse Avenue will be delayed and reopen later than the original October 6 estimation. The discovery of a finger bone found near the construction site prompted the delay. The archaeologist on site stopped work on the project while the bone’s origin was determined and the Native America Heritage Commission was informed.

  • MEASURE P STREETS: Citywide Street Resurfacing/Slurry Phase 5 - Currently markings, striping, and additional cleanup to complete.
  • Wharf II Pile Replacement & Repair - Critical repairs continue. Completion expected some time in December. (CIP)
  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Installation of the new 36” water pipeline continues on Fitch Avenue in the Presidio of Monterey continues. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Traffic controls and parking limitations will be posted. Work will suspend Thursday, November 23 for the Thanksgiving holiday and resume on Monday November 27. Nighttime construction work in downtown Monterey continues on Webster Street and Munras Avenue Sunday - Thursday, between the hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Traffic controls will be posted.   • Monterey Bay Aquarium Education Center Construction (Non-City Project) Periodic and Brief Delays on Recreation Trail at Hoffman Avenue Weekdays, July 2017 to Fall 2018 - Work to close Hoffman between Cannery Row and Wave Street, tentatively scheduled for Nov.28, Dec. 5, and Dec. 11, weather permitting.
