Spare the Air, Wildfire Air Quality Advisory: Beach fires banned until further notice

The air quality in Monterey County is being adversely impacted by the wildfires in Northern California.  As a result, the Air District has issued an air quality advisory requesting that wood burning be suspended while we experience significant levels of smoke from the wildfires up north (http://mbard.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/WildfireSmokeAdvisory_10.11.2017.pdf).  To help in this effort, the City of Monterey has banned beach fires on City and State-managed beachs until further notice and the advisory is lifted. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Monterey Bay Aquarium Education Center Construction (Non-City Project) Periodic and Brief Delays on Recreation Trail at Hoffman Avenue Weekdays, July 2017 to Fall 2018

    October 25 and October 26
East bound traffic on Cannery Row between Hoffman and the After the Quake will be closed during the work day. Normal flow will be restored at the end of the work day.
Flaggers and traffic control will be provided to allow alternating passage of the single lane portion of work.
Hoffman will remain open to two way traffic.
Parking Meters on the West side of Cannery Row between Hoffmann and the valet area of Spindrfit will be bagged for no parking to facilitate traffic flow.

October 27 through  October 29 (Friday through Sunday)
Normal Flow -  no road work
    October 30 through November 2
West Bound Lane closed from Monday morning through Thursday afternoon.*
One lane of traffic will remain in passive flow eastbound from Prescott to Hoffman (no flaggers)
Traffic heading west bound on Cannery Row from Drake toward the aquarium, will encounter detour signs to turn Left at Hoffman.
Hoffmann will remain with normal flow
Normal flow will be restored by Thursday afternoon.
*The deep work on the West side allows no safe way to have traffic flow over the excavation after the work day because there will be a 10x10 x 13 deep hole that traffic plates cannot span safely. Therefore, we have spread the work to avoid the weekends (and Fridays).
