06/28/2018: Burglary Arrest

On June 23rd, a burglary occurred at a construction site on Carmel Way in the City of Carmel. Two suspects were reported to have stolen thousands of dollars in tools and equipment. Also stolen was a white 2005 Ford F-350 panel truck with California license plate 7T03015.

06/11/2018: Community Meeting Before the Planning Commission on Wireless Facility Regulations, June 26, 2018

The Planning Commission will host a community meeting to review policy alternatives to the City’s existing regulations of wireless facilities on Tuesday, June 26 at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, Few Memorial Hall at 580 Pacific Street. The public is also invited to attend a one-hour pre-meeting with the City’s consulting attorney Joseph Van Eaton, Partner, Best Best & Krieger, at 5:45 p.m. at the same location. Mr. Van Eaton will take questions during the pre-meeting and will incorporate responses in his presentation before the Planning Commission.

06/11/2018: Attempted Burglary

On Monday June 11, 2018 at 12:33 AM, the Monterey Police Department received a call of an attempted residential burglary in the 400 block of English Avenue in Monterey. The suspect attempted to enter an occupied residence but was unsuccessful. The homeowner of the residence yelled at the suspect and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was reported to be holding a handgun.

06/11/2018: Warrant, Destructive Device Arrests

On June 8th, 2018 at 10:36 AM, the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team and  Monterey  County  Probation  Department conducted  a probation compliance  check in the 1400 Block of Mescal St. in Seaside. As a result, 56 year old Eric Campbell was arrested for an outstanding $80,000 arrest warrant. During a subsequent investigation, a  homemade  destructive  device  was  located.  The  device  was  rendered  safe  with  the assistance of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad. At the conclusion of the  investigation,  both  Eric  and  his  56  year  old  twin  brother,  Cedric  Campbell,  were arrested for felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a destructive device and violation of probation.

06/07/2018: Nixle Alerts

The Monterey Police Department is now using the Nixle alert system to notify community members of critical information. The Nixle alert system is in use by many government agencies across the U.S. and allows the MPD to make notifications via text message, social media, and email. The system will allow people to receive information and updates on events, public safety emergencies, dangerous weather, and traffic advisories.

The Monterey City Council recently approved the merging of the Parks Division with the Recreation Division to create a new Parks and Recreation Department. The Community Services Department was dissolved to make these changes possible.

The Monterey Police Department (MPD) has seen an increase in property crimes in recent months, specifically automobile and residential burglaries. The MPD would like to remind people to ensure that they lock their vehicles and not leave items of value in the vehicle and specifically not leave them in plain sight. Additionally, homes and garages should be closed and locked.
