Paid parking is back! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to comply with the resulting Monterey County Shelter in Place order, the Parking Division suspended paid parking enforcement in mid-March. The Parking Division is transitioning back to paid parking on June 1st, 2020 as more people begin utilizing city lots and on-street parking. NEWS RELEASE

12/12/2019: Monterey Conference Center Solar Project Wins 2019 Solar Builder Editor's Choice Award, "Best Job by a City Engineer"

The Monterey Conference Center in July 2019 completed installation of 330 solar panels on the new facility, bringing it a step closer to being designated a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified facility. The solar industry noticed the project - Solar Builder Magazine awarded it the 2019 Solar Builder Editor’s Choice Project of the Year, “Best Job by a City Engineer”. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

Monterey drivers now have the option to pay for parking from their mobile devices. The ParkMobile app is available at approximately 1,200 spaces in most Cannery Row, Downtown, and Waterfront parking lots. 09/25/2019: Groundwater Contaminant Remediation Underwater at 951 Del Monte Avenue

A second round of field groundwater contaminant remediation began at 951 Del Monte Avenue on the eastern end of Window-On-The-Bay Park on Monday, September 23, 2019, and will continue through Wednesday, October 2, 2019. The remediation work is being performed by environmental services firms Trinity Source Group, Inc. and Integral Consulting, Inc. on behalf of the City of Monterey and under regulatory oversight by the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board. The remedial method is Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination, a non-toxic soil injection treatment that utilizes the natural microbial community to deconstruct the legacy pollutants for an improved environmental condition into the future. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

Measure S Street Improvements Coming to Monterey Neighborhoods 9/18-10/3

Measure S Road Resurfacing Schedule (Phase One) has been released. Improvements coming to Casanova Oak Knoll, Villa Del Monte, Del Monte Grove Laguna Grande, Fishermans Flats and Deer Flats neighborhoods from September 18 to October 3. Schedule is subject to change. SCHEDULE IN PDF

Background: Measure S was approved by 82% of voters in November, 2018 as a continuation of Measure P. It authorized a 1% local district tax (sales and use tax) to be used “to address significant deferred maintenance by fixing streets, sidewalks, and potholes; improve related access and safety for senior citizens, disabled residents, and others; and repair its 100-year-old storm drain system to protect our beaches/Monterey Bay.” Learn more at monterey.org/fixingstreets.

07/22/2019: Measure S Street Paving Scheduled For North Fremont as Part of Bike and Pedestrian Access and Safety Improvements Project

Paving  operations  are  scheduled for  July  23  –  July  27,  2019  on  North Fremont Street and from Casanova Avenue to Casa Verde Way. To minimize impacts to residents and businesses, crews are combining paving operations from the North Fremont Bike  &  Pedestrian  Access  and  Safety  Improvements  Project  with paving for the existing asphalt shoulder/parking areas along North Fremont Street as part of Monterey’s Measure S Fixing Streets Initiative.
