07/21/2021: Laguna Grande Regional Park Virtual Town Hall, July 28, 2021

The Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District and the cities of Monterey and Seaside are hosting a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the upcoming Laguna Grande Regional Park Master Plan project. Local landscape architects, BFS Landscape Architects, will facilitate the discussion and provide a short presentation outlining the park planning scope, including long-range goals and maintenance to provide the best uses possible for people to enjoy. 07/21/2021: City of Monterey and MPUSD To Host Vaccination Clinics at Monterey High School

When Monterey High students pick up their return-to-school registration packets the week of July 26, 2021, they will also have an opportunity to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The City of Monterey’s Fire Department will be on site to provide the Pfizer vaccine, approved for children 12 years of age and older. Moderna and Janssen (J&J) vaccines will also be available to adults 18 years and older. Parents and children 12 and older who are not yet vaccinated are encouraged to participate. Students under 18 must have a parent/caregiver present to provide consent. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

07/18/2021: Fatal Collision Investigation

On July 18th, 2021 at 12:26 a.m., Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision in the 600 block of Casanova Avenue.  Officers arrived on scene and observed a single motorcycle, which was carrying two people, appeared to have lost control and crashed while traveling northbound on Casanova Avenue. Officers and medical personnel attempted to render aid to the driver and passenger. Tragically, the driver succumbed to his injuries sustained from the collision.  The driver was identified as Giovanni Jimenez, 27 years old of Monterey.  The passenger was transported to Natividad Medical Center in critical condition. 07/17/2021: Update - Arrest - Annoying a Minor

On July 16, 2021, Monterey Police Detectives identified Charles Trembley, 61 years old of Hollister, as the suspect in this case. Trembley is the registered owner of a truck with distinct features matching the suspect vehicle description provided by witnesses.  Trembley was also identified by witnesses as the suspect. 07/15/2021: Annoying a Minor

On July 15, 2021 at 12:02 p.m., Monterey Police Officers were dispatched to Dennis the Menace Park at 777 Pearl Street regarding a report of a male loitering in the area and attempting to entice young children into his vehicle with candy.  An adult in the area saw this and intervened.  The male suspect left the area before officers arrived.
