Lady Washington Visits to Help Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Monterey, Nov. 8 - 18

The Lady Washington, the official tall ship of the State of Washington, will vist Monterey on November 8 - 26 and take part in a special re-enactment of the Bouchard’s attack on Monterey. This re-enactment will include a cannon duel with the Presidio, a beach landing of privateers, a lowering of the Spanish and raising of the Argentine flag, with dramatic presentations by actors portraying the principle characters, City official will also make presentations.

Downtown Parking Spaces Become Parklets During (PARK)ing Day, September 21

On Friday, September 21, the City of Monterey will participate in (PARK)ing Day, an annual event that transforms parking spaces into temporary parklets. These mini parks will feature green spaces, outdoor seating and fun and educational booths from various City departments. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF

09/12/2018: UPDATE - Shots Being Fired/Assault Weapon Charges

Arrest Update
On 9/11/18, Monterey Police Detectives booked 60-years-old Daniel Piggott of Monterey into the Monterey County Jail for charges which included; manufacturing an assault weapon, possession of an assault weapon, possession of high capacity magazines, negligent discharge of a firearm and discharge of a firearm in a school zone. The investigation stemming from the incident on 9/7/18 revealed that Piggott was responsible for the original shots fired call. Evidence recovered at the scene indicated that Piggott had fired multiple rounds, several of which struck a wall on a patio that was adjacent to his apartment.
