On November 16, 2017 at approximately 2:12 p.m., the Monterey Police Department responded to an injury collision on Highway 68 between Olmsted Road and Canyon Del Rey Boulevard involving two vehicles.

The Museums and Cultural Arts Office of the City of Monterey is announcing the opening of a Public Art Auction. The City has released 12 of the 25 pieces of art that were recently de-accessioned from the City of Monterey’s Art Collection. The items were outside the scope of the City’s collection policy. Although many other pieces were able to be placed in other public institutions, these 12 will be publicly auctioned off through Public Surplus.

Monterey County residents once again have an opportunity to win a trip to run in the “Du-Motion, Runners’ Day Dubrovnik” Half Marathon in Croatia, April 28 – 29, 2018. This is the second year in a row that a sister city runner exchange has taken place. Monterey County residents have the option to enter when they register for the Monterey Bay Half Marathon, or they can enter to win by stopping by the Du-Motion booth at the Monterey Bay Half Marathon’s Health & Fitness Expo at the Portola Hotel in Monterey on Friday or Saturday, November 10 and 11. No purchase or pre-registration is required.

The Monterey Community Band presents: “Music Makes the Holidays” Concert, conducted by Kristen Thompson. This concert features “Essay for Band” by Brent Heisinger, “Fifth Suite for Band” by Alfred Reed, “The Saint’s Hallelujah” arranged by Luther Henderson, “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson as well as other holiday tunes! The concert will be held at the Monterey Peninsula College Music Hall on Sunday, December 3 at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free. Come and enjoy an afternoon of musical entertainment for the whole family.

RSS - Real Simple Syndication

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a system of content syndication that allows a user to get automatic updates from multiple web sites whenever new content is published on these sites. It acts like a personal web reader by checking your selected sites regularly for new content. If you set up an RSS feed from the New York Times Sports section, for example, you would be notified whenever a new article was posted. The notification takes place in an RSS Reader.

To use a site’s RSS feature, an RSS reader is required.

  1. Choose an RSS reader. An Internet search will return many options. Some readers are web-based, such as Google Reader, My Yahoo! and Bloglines. Web-based readers require no software installation and are accessible from any computer that has Internet access. Other readers are downloadable applications, such as FeedReader or FeedDemon.
  2. Once you’ve chosen an RSS reader, follow the instructions to download, install, and open the reader.
  3. Decide what type of content you want the RSS reader to monitor. Many web sites provide RSS, which can usually be found on those sites as a link. An orange button is often used to display the service’s availability. Sometimes the RSS feed is automatically added to the RSS reader and updates are sent every time new content is available. Alternatively, you may have to click the RSS link and copy it into your RSS reader.
