Volunteen
Recreation Aide: Day Camp Program: (13-16)
Do you like to
have fun? Would you like to have fun
while
earning your volunteer hours? If you answered yes to both of these
questions, then sign up to become a Recreation Aide. As a Recreation
Aide you will assist in the set-up and preparation of activities and
events for kids (ages 5-9). Some of the events include hiking, singing,
folk dancing, crafts, snacks and, of course, games. You will always be
supervised by the Day Camp Director or a Counselor. If this sounds like
your cup of tea, keep reading! Camp runs M-F, 9:00am-5:30pm, June
15-July 31. Shift times are 8am-12:30 or 12:30-5:30pm. You must be there
a minimum shift of 4 hours, twice per week for at least 5 of the 7
weeks, and you MUST attend training.
Volunteen Recreation Aide: Playground Program: (13-16)
Playground enthusiasts gather around! This is the perfect summer
volunteer job for you! As an Aide you will assist with the supervision
of children (5-12) during playground games such as sports, free play,
crafts and singing, as well as special themed activities. If you’re an
older brother or sister then this will be a piece of cake. f you ever
wished you were the oldest sibling in your family then here’s your
chance. The playground program runs M-F, 10am-5pm, June 15- July 31.
Shift times are flexible, but must be consistent throughout the
summer. You must commit to a minimum shift of 4 hours, twice per week
for at least 5 of the 7 weeks, and you MUST attend training. You will
always be under the supervision of the Playground Recreation Leader.
Camp Lots-O-Tots Program Volunteen:
(13-16)
If you already tutor someone or just like to help
your friends or younger siblings with homework, than
you will have lots-o-fun here! You will assist in
the daily implementation of the program curriculum
for children (3-5) including math, reading,
listening and verbal skills . Some of the fun
activities include: art, crafts, cooking, music and
movement, dramatic play and outdoor play. If this
sounds like fun then keep reading for more
information. Classes meet T-F, 10am-1pm , June
2-July24. Minimum shift is 1 day per week from
9:30-1:30, but you may work up to 4 days per week.
Your schedule must be consistent throughout the
summer and you will always be under the supervision
of preschool staff.
Community Center Reception/Clerical Assistance: (13-16)
This Volunteen job will teach you many practical skills that will help
you with future jobs, but that doesn’t mean it's not fun! Under the
supervision of Community Center staff, you will assist with a wide range
of tasks in an office setting, including: greeting people at the front
desk, preparing for various community center programs and filing.
Computer skills are always helpful. This is a very flexible job, here
are the specifics: you may work as many hours as you like, with a
minimum of 2 per week, starting June 1.
You must commit to at least 3 weeks, but may continue through August if
you wish.
Volunteen Recreation Aide: Sports Camp (13-16)
Calling all sports buffs! This Volunteen job was made just for you! As
an Aide your duties will include: attending all in-service training
sessions, encouraging camper participation, assisting with general
maintenance and proper care of equipment, escorting campers to and from
MSC, roller skating rink, and of course, participation in sports
activities. Camp meets M-F, 9am-5pm, June 15-August 14. Assignments
will be given per week and will vary from 20-40 hours per week. This is
a popular position so there is no guarantee of being assigned as an Aide
every week of the summer. You will always be under the supervision of
the Sports Coordinator and/or Director. There will be a mandatory
training on Tuesday, June 9 from 3:30pm-5pm.
Volunteen Recreation Aide : Cheer
Camp (13-16)
Are you currently a cheerleader at your school? Have you ever wanted to
teach other kids to cheer? Well here’s your chance! As a Cheer Camp
Aide you will have various duties, including: attending all
in-service training sessions, encouraging camper participation,
assisting with general maintenance and proper care of equipment,
escorting campers to and from MSC, roller skating rink, helping teach
sideline cheers, crowd cheers, performance cheers and dance
routines. Camp meets M-F, 9am-5pm, June 15- July 31. Assignments will be
given per week and will vary from 20-40 hours per week. This is another
popular position so remember there is no guarantee of being assigned as
an Aide every week of the summer. You will always be under the
supervision of the Sports Coordinator and/or Director. There will be a

Kids Zone Volunteen: (13-16)
Babysitters gather around! Give parents a helping hand by looking after
their kids (ages 6 months-8 years) while they participate in sports
center facilities. Under the supervision of staff you will have many
duties, including: clean-up, area maintenance and helping make the Kids
Zone a healthy, safe and happy place for the children. You will also
participate in fun activities such as arts and crafts, games and
dramatic play. Time commitment is a minimum of one four-hour shift per
week. There will be a mandatory training at the Monterey Sports Center
June 11 at
3:30pm
Volunteen Swim Instructor Aide:
(13-16)
Who doesn’t like swimming in the summer? Wish you
could swim every day this summer? Become a swim
instructor aide and you can! As an Aide you will
provide an extra set of hands in the water for swim
instructors. Duties include: attending in-service
training, assisting with swim lessons, general
maintenance, and proper care of equipment.
Instructor sessions are in two-week increments from
June 8-July 30, M-TR, with shifts of 9am-12pm or
4-7pm. This is another popular position so there is
no guarantee of being assigned every session. There
will be a mandatory training at the Monterey Sports
Center Friday May 30 at
5pm.
LIBRARY
Library Program Assistant: (14-17)
Are you creative? Attentive to detail? Like working with kids of all
ages? Look no further for your summer volunteer job! Under the
supervision of the Library’s Youth Services staff you will help in
preparing for programs and crafts, and serve as a monitor during those
programs. You may also work with other teens assisting at teen programs
(like the Summer Reading Program for teens). Weekly programs are
Thursday afternoons, and Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. You can expect
to work 10-15 hours per week starting June 5,
and may continue into August. In addition, Program Assistants will be
asked to be available to work 4 hour shifts at a special Library event
on Saturday, June17 between 10am-5pm.
Library Special Projects: (14-17)
This is a very special summer job! Under the supervision of the Library
staff you will participate in many different projects, including:
preparing for programs, promotions or library services; assisting with
craft preparation, compiling papers for programs or promotions, and
assisting with enhancements to library programs and services. Dates and
times are flexible.
HARBOR
Waterfront Volunteen: (15+)
There will never be a dull moment during this job! Under the
supervision of Harbor staff you will participate in, and learn hands on,
several technical and clerical skills applicable to the overall function
of the Marina/Harbor facility. Just
some
of the duties include: assisting with communications and dispatch,
clerical tasks and record keeping, acting as an extra pair of eyes and
ears for the Security Watchstander, sign maintenance, general clean-up,
and painting. Throughout the summer you will have the opportunity to
learn about all of the aspects of waterfront operations! Here are the
specifics: shifts are flexible, either between 6am-4:30pm M-TR or
8am-3:30pm F-Sun, starting June 6.
You must commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week, but may volunteer for
up to 20.
CITY ATTORNEY
Law
Library File Clerk: (14+)
Calling all future lawyers! This job is perfect for those of you who
would like to get a hands-on experience in a City Attorney’s office.
Under the supervision of the City Attorney staff you will have many
duties organizing and maintaining the City’s Law Library, including:
shelving new books, updating legal publications by replacing old pages
with new ones, inserting new pocket parts, and other similar library
maintenance functions. Flexible times with a minimum of 4 hours per
week.
VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS
Clerical/Reception: (13-16)
Want to stay out of the heat this summer? Then
get this job!
This is a great way to gain experience that will help you with future
jobs (while staying out of the hot summer heat!). Under the supervision
of City staff you will assist with many different tasks in an office
setting, including, filing and photo-copying. Computer skills are also
super helpful! Hours are very flexible with a minimum of 2 per week.
