On Saturday morning, March 14th, 2015 at 02:07 AM, Abraham Lizama was shot to death on the beach near Beach Way and Tide Ave. After an intense investigation, beginning with the initial response from Monterey patrol officers, as well as follow-up conducted by the Monterey Police Department Investigations Division, Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT), Salinas Police Department and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, two arrests have been made.

On March 3, 2015 at 10:29 PM, two unknown male suspects, one armed with a handgun, and one armed with a knife walked up to a male and female in the 700 block of Spencer and demanded money. One of the victims was robbed of his wallet. The suspects were last seen fleeing on foot towards David Avenue.

Since November of 2014, the Monterey Police Department has been working directly with local service providers in a collaborative effort to help reduce homelesness and assist those most in need in our society. This collaborative effort, the Monterey Homeless Exchange, currently consisting of the Police Department and 12 social service providers, meets monthly to directly impact the city's homeless population by helping specific individuals get more direct access to available resources.
