Boomer Education 101

Monday, July 22 and 29, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

The Monterey Public Library presents Boomer Education 101, a two-part series with Bob Petty on Monday July 22 and 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Library Community Room. The programs will help members of the Baby Boomer generation prepare for major changes that are just around the corner. Topics include Medicare benefits, Social Security, and continued employment after age 65. Dr. Petty is an advisor with Partners for Transitions, LLC and a member of the California Commission on Aging.

The Literary Circle, the Library's monthly Book Discussion Group will discuss The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson, in the Community Room on August 26, at 6:30 p.m.  Winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for literature, this highly acclaimed novel portrays life in modern North Korea.  Read the book (or do some reading about modern North Korea or other themes in this book to bring additional perspective to the discussion) and join the lively, congenial discussion, facilitated by Library staff.  Click here for a complete list of Literary Circle selections for 2013-2014.

Adaptive Aquatic Exercise: Building a New and Improved You with Lynn Young

In this presentation, Lynn Young, Executive Director, Kernes Adaptive Aquatics, Josephine Kernes Memorial Pool will discuss how gentle, fun exercises in a warm water pool can increase strength, flexibility, balance, and cardio fitness while reducing pain and secondary conditions.  In this presentation you will learn how regular exercise in a warm, nurturing environment builds confidence and mobility and recharges the spirit.  This lecture is part of The Next Chapter: Designing Your Ideal Life lecture series sponsored by the Friends of the Monterey Public Library and the Monterey Public Library Endowment Committee, and not sponsored or endorsed by the Monterey Public Library or the City of Monterey.
