Cannery Row & Aquarium
CANNERY ROW was once a bustling row of sardine canneries during Monterey's famed industrial heyday. It is now a tourist attraction with many restaurants and hotels, many of which are located in former cannery buildings, and a few historical attractions. One of the biggest draws to the Row is the world-famous MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM. The street was once named Ocean View Avenue until JOHN STEINBECK made the street famous in his classic novel Cannery Row.
Old Fisherman's Wharf
Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf is one of the top attractions year-round in the city. Great shopping, dining, recreation and entertainment can be found here. Eat at one of our famous local seafood restaurants. Take a scenic, fishing or whale watching cruise on the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Buy local fish on Wharf II. Go sailing or kayaking.
Campgrounds & Hiking Trails
Veteran's Park is a 50-acre park with overnight group camping, hiking trails, BBQ picnic areas, play equipment, and a turf playfield. The park includes a beautiful 81 acre forest and wildlife preserve called Huckleberry Hill. Camping in Monterey is a safe, affordable and fun lodging option for visitors and residents. It is conveniently located just a couple miles from City attractions and services.
Monterey Bay Whale Watching
The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is one of the best year-round whale watching destinations in the world. You can see dolphins, humpback, gray, blue and killer whales, among many others.

Old Monterey
Old Monterey is the heart of Historic Downtown. We offer a well-marked Path of History and over 460 shops, restaurants, hotels, and businesses offering personal and professional services, alongside historic adobes. Downtown is also home of the Old Monterey Market Place, held on Alvarado Street, the city's historic main street. It is the largest gathering place in Monterey County.
New Monterey
The Lighthouse District in Monterey, CA has over 100 specialty shops, restaurants and nightlife establishments, most of which are small, locally-owned businesses. Though it is only a mile long, this district has something for everyone. Try food and drinks at over a dozen diverse restaurants. Visit our community center and park. Take martial arts, surfing or diving lessons. See a play or get a tattoo.
North Fremont
The North Fremont Business District is a mile long strip which includes unique restaurants and small businesses. It is famously home to historic Monterey Fairgrounds, which holds popular festivals every month. Included here are affordable lodging and a small but fun nightlife scene.

Old Monterey Marketplace
The Old Monterey Farmers Market, established in 1991, comprises of 3 ½ city blocks and runs year-round rain or shine. During the summer it’s the largest gathering of people in Monterey County, attracting more that 10,000 locals and tourists in one location. You can travel the world in just three blocks, finding arts and crafts, handmade jewelry, furniture, clothing, international food, organic produce, flowers, and pastries.
