CRV stands for California Redemption Value
and it is the deposit you pay when you buy soft drinks, juices, water, beer and more (Click here for information on the CRV program)
You pay a 5¢ deposit for containers with 24 ounces or less and a 10¢ deposit for containers 25 ounces or more. These charges are collected at the store register when you buy your beverages.
To redeem the deposits you have paid, visit any one of the convenient Buyback Centers. Search for local Buyback Locations
Please call the number listed for the buyback center you choose before visiting as operating hours are subject to change without notice.
If you would prefer not to drop off your recyclables, recycle your cans, bottles and other recyclables in your curbside bin. In Monterey, your curbside recycling is FREE - you only pay for trash. The hauler uses the value of the CRV containers and other commodities such as paper and cardboard to offset expenses such as landfill disposal and operational costs.
It is against the law for people to take recyclables out of curbside containers. To report theft, call the City of Monterey Police Department, (831) 646-3914 to report theft immediately. Please note day, time, and other information such as license plate numbers or physical descriptions.
