Detective Jason Newby – Officer of the Year, 2011 Minimize

Jason NewbyDetective Jason Newby has been chosen as the Department's 2011 Police Officer of the Year.  Jason has been with the department for the past seven years.  Prior to joining us, Jason was a reserve officer for three years with a department in Indiana.  During his tenure at Monterey, Jason has worked patrol both as an officer and as a K9 handler.  In January of 2011, he was assigned to the Investigations Division as one of our detectives.

During his first year in Investigations, Detective Newby excelled, handling a variety of cases which included serving as the lead investigator in two of Monterey's homicides.  His tenacity, work ethic, and compassion for the victims were beyond compare.

His dedication to the Monterey community and the excellent work that he produced in homicide, burglary, and narcotic investigations earned him this award, along with his willingness to work many extra patrol shifts and special events to assist during staffing shortages.  This type of effort and teamwork is worthy of recognition and Detective Newby is worthy of our praise.

Sarah McClain – Professional Employee of the Year, 2011 Minimize
PST Sarah McClain
Police Services Technician Sarah McClain was selected as the 2011 Professional Employee of the Year.  After coming to Monterey from the Seaside Police Department in 2010, PST McClain quickly demonstrated her commitment to providing exceptional services to our community during one of the most challenging times in the history of our Department due to staffing shortages.  She adjusted her work schedule and job tasks in order to provide continuous support to our Patrol Division and the community.

PST McClain embodied a "can-do" attitude, remaining flexible to accommodate keeping the jail open and staffing Records.  She is recognized for her willingness to help tackle each priority, which resulted in no compromise to the services rendered to our community.  PST McClain is a valued member of the Monterey Police Department family and an exceptional public servant.
