Window on the Bay Waterfront Park
spacer
Since the City's Master Plan of 1939, the City of Monterey has had the vision of acquiring open space and providing public access to our waterfront. The Window on the Bay Park is the result of these efforts. This beautiful park runs alongside Monterey State Beach, Del Monte Ave and the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreational Trail. There are plenty of recreational opportunities and scenic vistas.

The City hopes to expand the park. Completion of the Window on the Bay/Monterey Bay Waterfront Park remains one of the City’s top priorities. The project continues to allow residents and visitors alike the opportunity to derive more from one of our most precious assets - Monterey Bay.

The City has been negotiating to obtain the remaining privately owned parcels along this waterfront area to create a beautiful entrance to the City, allow for more recreational opportunities and eventually widen and improve access along Del Monte Avenue, Monterey’s main traffic thoroughfare. This is an "opportunity buying" program, requiring a willing seller and an agreement on the value of the property. The City's policy is to not use its powers of condemnation to acquire parkland.
