Fire Chief Andrew Miller
Fire Chief Andrew Miller came to Monterey from the Pacific Grove Fire Department during the consolidation in 2008. Chief Miller has 32 years fire service experience, including nine years as Fire Chief in Pacific Grove, and Chief of both Pacific Grove and Carmel-by-the-Sea from 2005 to 2008.
Following the 2008 fire services merger between Monterey and Pacific Grove Chief Miller served as the Assistant Fire Chief in Monterey for two years. During that time, he was instrumental in the Monterey / Pacific Grove fire merger and oversaw the highly successful operational transition of the Monterey and Pacific Grove fire services.
On January 1, 2012, Chief Miller, his administrative staff, Monterey Fire Management Association, Monterey Firefighters Association and Carmel Firefighters Association successfully implemented the Monterey and
Carmel-by-the-Sea full fire services contract.
“It is truly an honor to lead the Monterey Fire Department in providing fire services to the citizens of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Sand City, Carmel-by-the-Sea, the Presidio of Monterey, Naval Postgraduate School and La Mesa Village. Our goal is to provide professional, responsive, cost effective fire services to all of the communities we serve.”
Chief Miller is a resident of Pacific Grove, where he has lived for most of his life. He is a graduate of Pacific Grove High School, Monterey Peninsula College, and Cogswell Polytechnical College, he completed the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program, and he is a California State Certified Chief Fire Officer. Chief Miller is married and has 4 children ages
13-25.
