02/11/2016: City of Monterey Seeks Recycling Solution

Environmental Programs, Plans and Public Works

The City of Monterey is actively looking for solutions to deal with the recent closure of six California Redemption Value (CRV) centers in north Monterey County. These small centers provide state-mandated CRV refunds to people who recycle plastic, glass, metal and other beverage containers with “CA CRV” or “CA CASH REFUND” written on them. Consumers pay $.05 - .25 per container on CRV purchases, and these monies go into a state fund that pays back consumers when they return the bottles to a redemption center.

News Release in PDF
PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. – The Taylor Street Gate is scheduled to close temporarily for construction from February 19 through March 18, 2016 (weather permitting).
During this period, an alternate access control point will be operating on 15th Infantry Road on the lower Presidio from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. to offset the impact of inbound commuter traffic on neighboring communities.
One measure intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety on Lighthouse Avenue during peak hours is to block the Bolio Street Gate entrance from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. to avoid traffic congestion. Traffic will be directed to enter the lower Presidio on 78th Infantry Street and follow Corporal Ewing Road to Bolio Street Gate.
Presidio officials and City of Monterey traffic engineers continue to work together to minimize congestion and delays during commute times. Signs will be prominently posted routing traffic to alternate gates as appropriate.
Construction will continue through the weekends to accelerate project completion and lessen the impact on the surrounding community.
Presidio officials remind community members to allow more time when accessing the Presidio of Monterey, either as an employee or as a visitor. Advanced planning should help mitigate any concerns.
