The City of Monterey has installed a new historical mural along the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, thanks to funding and support from the Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP). Located between Old Fisherman's Wharf and Fisherman's Shoreline Park, the 12 x 5 foot mural depicts the natural landscape as it looked over 400 years ago in the most historic area of Monterey.  News Release in PDF

City Manager Mike McCarthy today named Interim Police Chief Dave Hober to the position of Police Chief, effective July 16, 2015. Hober was selected following a public recruitment, competitive screening and interview process. Chief Hober’s annual salary is $177,288.

In light of the tragic fire at a local pet grooming and boarding facility, the Monterey Fire Department encourages all pet care facilities in the communities it serves to assess their fire and smoke alarm systems and fire suppression capabilities. Although these systems may not be required in older buildings, there are inexpensive smoke and fire detectors that can be installed in key areas of a building or home.
