SEWAGE SPILL UPDATE: Monterey Beach Near Wharf One Reopened

Water quality update, October 31:
On October 29, a section of the beach adjacent to Monterey Bay Coastal Trail near Wharf One in Monterey was closed due to a sewage spill that resulted from a sewer pipe leak. Bacterial results came back today under alert limits. The beach was reopened and all notices removed by County Health. However, since this is the "First Flush" rain event, County Health is advising to avoid water contact for three (3) days after the end of this rain event.

The City of Monterey, Monterey Regional Stormwater Management Program, California Coastal Commission and Save Our Shores are asking for your help in this year's Coastal Clean Up Day. Join us and thousands of volunteers on September 20th to clean up our beautiful beaches, parks, waterways and neighborhoods, and prevent trash from causing harm to our oceans, to wildlife, to our coastal economies, and even to beach-goers. Clean up will go from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at various locations.
