On March 23, 2017 at approximately 11:50 AM, California Highway Patrol, Marina Police Detectives, Monterey Police Officers, the Multi Agency Detail for Commercial Auto Theft (MADCAT), and the District Attorney’s Office Investigators assisted the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) Detectives with a search warrant in the 300 block of Berry Road in the Las Lomas area of North Monterey County.
Today the City of Monterey prevailed in litigation initiated against it by Marilyn Shepherd. The jury verdict was unanimous. NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
On November 23, 2016, Raul Melendez was the victim of a shooting homicide that occurred in the 600 block of Wave Street in Monterey. The Monterey Police Department (MPD) assisted by the Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team (PRVNT) identified the suspect in this homicide as Jorge Luis Mendoza and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.
The Van Buren Senior Affordable Housing Project’s developer, MidPen, began demolition last week with removal of the buildings beginning today. The project is being developed on City owned property and will provide 18 brand new, very much needed affordable rental housing units for extremely low, very low and low-income seniors.
On March 11, 2017, the Monterey Police Department took part in the Statewide “Shoulder Tap” Operation subsequent to receiving a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).
The Monterey Fire Department is resuming conducting fire prevention inspections in the City of Pacific Grove. The Department has recently hired three part -time inspectors to assist with this effort. Inspections will be conducted at multi -family residential buildings, schools, care facilities, and businesses. Emphasis will initially be on the residential buildings as those pose the greatest risk to the safety of people.
