The City of Monterey received $377,000 from the California Office of Emergency Services (OES) last week, specifically to reimburse for the Monterey Fire Department’s response to the Soberanes Fire.
Due to construction work on the Holman Highway 68 Roundabout project next Monday and Tuesday, the southbound Highway 1 on-ramp will be closed between Holman Highway 68 and the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate. The Highway 1 Gate entrance to Pebble Beach will be closed; all other gates will be open. The Highway 1 Gate exit from Pebble Beach will be a right turn only.

The City of Monterey announced today the opening of the Portola Plaza and completion of Phase 1. The redesign of the Portola Plaza creates a new grand entrance to the Monterey Conference Center, welcoming visitors and residents to this vibrant city center. A new circular drive highlighted through rich and colorful stone pavers will impress future visitors of the conference center, which is scheduled to open in fall 2017.
On May 9,2017 at 12:11 PM, Monterey Police Officers investigated a sexual assault that occurred on Hannon Street at Del Monte Avenue. The incident occurred on May 9, 2017 at approximately 2:30 AM.
On May 8,2017 at 6:37 PM, Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 2400 block of North Fremont Street. The suspect entered the business concealing his identity with a ski mask and demanded money while brandishing a knife. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money and fled the business in a silver vehicle. There were no injuries reported.
Business owners can now apply for their business license using the City of Monterey’s new Online Business License Application. This option will help streamline the process of applying and submitting applications to the Revenue Office . The online application is convenient, the process is easy, and available any time.
