Holman Highway 68 Roundabout Construction Update and Expected Lane Closures

Due to construction work on the Holman Highway 68 Roundabout project next Monday and Tuesday, the southbound Highway 1 on-ramp will be closed between Holman Highway 68 and the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate. The Highway 1 Gate entrance to Pebble Beach will be closed; all other gates will be open. The Highway 1 Gate exit from Pebble Beach will be a right turn only.
The planned closures are:

  • Monday, May 22 from 6 a.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 23
  • Tuesday, May 23 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 24

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Monterey invites sealed bids for furnishing the following:  Lower Presidio Historic Park Improvements.  In general, the work consists of, but is not limited to, clearing and grubbing, sawcutting, demolition of existing improvements, grading, curb and gutter, concrete parking stalls, asphalt conforms, decomposed granite walkway, pavement markings, erosion control, ramps and handrails, and construction of new colored concrete walking paths.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Monterey invites sealed bids for furnishing the following:  Citywide Street Resurfacing (Slurry), Phase 5 (35C1553).  In general, the work consists of, but is not limited to, pavement spot repair of approximately 300,000 SF, crack sealing, placing of approximately 1,200,000 SF of slurry seal, associated striping removal and replacement, refreshing of existing painted street markings, traffic control and installation of necessary environmental pollution prevention requirements on various streets in City of Monterey.

05/16/2017: Portola Plaza Opens - New Entrance to the Monterey Conference Center and Portola Hotel & Spa

The City of Monterey announced today the opening of the Portola Plaza and completion of Phase 1.  The redesign of the Portola Plaza creates a new grand entrance to the Monterey Conference Center, welcoming visitors and residents to this vibrant city center. A new circular drive highlighted through rich and colorful stone pavers will impress future visitors of the conference center, which is scheduled to open in fall 2017.

NEW DATE! THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL JULY 15 - Come celebrate the completed renovation of Montecito Park with the City of Monterey and the Villa Del Monte Neighborhood Association on Saturday, July 15, 2017.  Meet the Golden State Warriors mascot, participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m., and cheer on the finalists in a Three Point Shootout contest at 1:00 p.m. Prizes include a basketball signed by Draymond Green and a jersey signed by Kevon Looney of the Golden State Warriors.

  • Highway 68/Highway 1 Roundabout (monterey.org/hh68)
    Day and Night Work: Starting Monday 5/22 at 6 a.m., the connection from Holman Highway 68 to Southbound Highway 1 and the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate will be fully closed for 24 hours until Tuesday 5/23 at 6 a.m. The same full closure of the connection from Holman Highway 68 to Southbound Highway 1 and the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate will happen again on Tuesday night 5/23 from 8 p.m. to Wednesday morning 5/24 at 6 a.m. During the closures there will be no access from Holman Highway 68 to the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate or Southbound Highway 1 ramp (going towards Carmel). There will be access for a right turn ONLY exit out of Pebble Beach onto Southbound Highway 1. During the closure, drivers coming from Pacific Grove, Community Hospital, and the Aguajito Road neighborhood who are going towards southbound Highway 1 will need to follow the signed detour and head north on Highway 1 to make a U-turn at Munras Avenue. Large trucks and busses are advised to U-turn at Aguajito Road.
    During the closures:
    Emergency vehicles will have full access at all times.
    The CHP will be onsite to assist with traffic control.
    No closures are currently planned after Wednesday morning at 6 a.m. Additionally, the left turn from the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate towards Holman Highway 68 will be reopened after Wednesday at 6 a.m.
