11/22/2016: Monterey Police Officers Save Despondent Mans Life

On Monday November 21, 2016, at approximately 4:07 p.m., Monterey Police Officers responded to the 300 block of Glenwood Circle in Monterey on a request from neighbors to check on the welfare of an individual who had not been seen recently.  A first floor apartment was flooded with water, which had originated in the second floor apartment where the individual lived.

11/17/2016: Vision Zero OTS Grant Awarded to the City of Monterey

The City of Monterey has been awarded a $74,000 California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grant. The grant is funding the “Vision Zero” program over a one year time frame, including the purchase of educational material and development of a Vision Zero Action Plan.

11/14/2016: Arrest of Wanted Subject

On November 12, 2016 at 3:23 PM, Monterey Police Officers located 26 year old Adrian Chronister of Pacific Grove on the Recreation Trail between Wharf 1 and the Coast Guard Pier. Chronister was on felony probation and suspected of several commercial burglaries on the Monterey Peninsula. Chronister had also evaded police earlier in the week after leading officers on a foot pursuit in Downtown Monterey.

In October 2015, the City of Monterey and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) Company partnered on a successful project that resulted in ensuring public safety and maintaining a healthy urban forest. PG&E requested the removal of hundreds of trees to provide long term protection and excavation access to the major gas mains throughout the City.

Monterey Dubrovnik Sister City Relationship Plays Out at Half Marathon on Monterey Bay - Dual race offers runner exchange program

In 2006, the cities of Monterey, CA, and Dubrovnik, Croatia, began a sister-city relationship. The two cities are known worldwide as tourist destinations, have historical significance and interest in historical preservation and celebration, and are set along a spectacular coastline.  Now, each has a popular half marathon race as well.   • Alvarado Street Light Replacement - 26 street lights between Bonifacio and Del Monte - Replacing fixtures with LED lights that are energy efficient and have a very long lifespan. Conforms to the Downtown Master Plan and has dimming capabilities. Starts Monday and expected to take four to six days. Little to no impacts to thoroughfare or noise level. (CIP)

  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Pipeline construction will continue Madison Street in Monterey between Van Buren and Pacific Street. Crews will begin mobilization work in Pacific Grove near Sinex and Eardley Avenues. Appurtenance crews will move to Monroe Street in Monterey and continue work on Hilby Avenue. Paving will begin on North Fremont Street between Casa Verde and Hilby Avenues.

  • Highway 68/Highway 1 Roundabout (monterey.org/hh68)
    Next week crews will be focusing landscaping work, sidewalk work, as well as paving along southbound Highway 1 behind the concrete barriers under the Holman Highway 68 overpass. On Tuesday, crews will be pouring concrete for the last splitter island on the southbound highway 1 off-ramp. This work will require closing the free right turn lane of the off-ramp (going towards Pacific Grove) from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Drivers going towards Pacific Grove from the southbound Highway 1 off-ramp will need to proceed to the roundabout and make a right turn onto westbound Holman Highway 68.
    On Friday, crews will be working on a trench drain near the entrance to the Carmel Hills Professional Center, but no lane closure is currently planned for this work.
