03/07/2017: Monterey Fire to Re-Establish Fire Prevention Inspection Program in Pacific Grove

The Monterey Fire Department is resuming conducting fire prevention inspections in the City of Pacific Grove. The Department has recently hired three part -time inspectors to assist with this effort. Inspections will be conducted at multi -family residential buildings, schools, care facilities, and businesses. Emphasis will initially be on the residential buildings as those pose the greatest risk to the safety of people.

The Monterey Police Department has received a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to conduct Minor Decoy operations, Shoulder Tap Programs, and Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendencies (IMPACT) Inspections of ABC licensed businesses.

Challenge Coin Presentation to the Old Monterey Foundation

City Manager Mike McCarthy and Assistant City Manager Hans Uslar present Challenge Coins to Old Monterey Foundation's Bill McCrone and Frank Sollecito for their contributions to the Monterey community. The coins were presented in front of the new Lower Presidio Historic Park sign, designed and made possible by the Old Monterey Foundation and the Rotary Club. The Challenge Coin is a symbol of appreciation given to members of the community who have made a positive impact for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.

On February 12, 2017 at 10:27 PM, Monterey Police Officers responded to the Exxon Gas Station, 398 Fremont in Monterey, regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred.  The suspects fled in a black Dodge Dart prior to police arrival.

The City of Monterey will be accepting applications for the Special Event Grant Program until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 for events scheduled during Fiscal Year 2017-2018 (July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018).

  • Alvarado Street Light Replacement - 26 street lights between Bonifacio and Del Monte - Replacing fixtures with LED lights that are energy efficient and have a very long lifespan. Conforms to the Downtown Master Plan and has dimming capabilities. Starts Monday and expected to take four to six days. Little to no impacts to thoroughfare or noise level. (CIP)

  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Pipeline construction will continue Madison Street in Monterey between Van Buren and Pacific Street. Crews will begin mobilization work in Pacific Grove near Sinex and Eardley Avenues. Appurtenance crews will move to Monroe Street in Monterey and continue work on Hilby Avenue. Paving will begin on North Fremont Street between Casa Verde and Hilby Avenues.

  • Highway 68/Highway 1 Roundabout (monterey.org/hh68)
    Next week crews will be focusing landscaping work, sidewalk work, as well as paving along southbound Highway 1 behind the concrete barriers under the Holman Highway 68 overpass. On Tuesday, crews will be pouring concrete for the last splitter island on the southbound highway 1 off-ramp. This work will require closing the free right turn lane of the off-ramp (going towards Pacific Grove) from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Drivers going towards Pacific Grove from the southbound Highway 1 off-ramp will need to proceed to the roundabout and make a right turn onto westbound Holman Highway 68.
    On Friday, crews will be working on a trench drain near the entrance to the Carmel Hills Professional Center, but no lane closure is currently planned for this work.
