06/21/2017: 4th of July in Monterey - Monterey Hosts a Full Day of Festivities, Tuesday, July 4, 2017

The City of Monterey, the Old Monterey Business Association, Monterey County Pops!, and the Monterey Firefighters Association will host a full day of events for family, friends and the whole community this July 4th. Monterey Firefighters will begin the day with a pancake breakfast at Fire headquarters. The festivities continue with the popular downtown Fourth of July Parade, followed by the Big Little Backyard Bar-B-Que and Entertainment Extravaganza on the Colton Hall lawn, topped off with an evening of patriotic music at the Golden State Theatre. These events are open to the public and alcohol free. Events begin at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 8:30 p.m.
     “There’s no better place to enjoy the birthday of our country than Monterey, the birth place of California,” said Mayor Clyde Roberson. “We look forward to joining both residents and visitors in a day-long celebration of our city and country.”

06/20/2017: The City of Monterey Welcomes New Human Resources Director

City Manager Mike McCarthy today announced the appointment of Allyson Hauck as the City’s new Human Resources Director. Hauck was previously a partner with the law firm Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai LLP in San Francisco, practicing in the areas of labor and employment law. She served as the Chief Negotiator for public agencies during collective bargaining with represented employees; the City of Monterey being one of her clients.

The Monterey Police Department (MPD) has received a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to conduct Impact Inspection. The objective of the inspection was to conduct visits of licensed premises to reduce alcohol related crimes in and around licensed establishments.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Monterey has prepared a Negative Declaration, pursuant to the requirements of CEQA, for City of Monterey Wyndemere Log Drop Project.

The proposed Negative Declaration and Initial Study, as well as referenced documents, are available for review at the City of Monterey, Planning Office, Colton Hall, 1st Floor, 570 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA 93940 and on the City website at: www.monterey.org/planning. In accordance with time limits mandated by State law, written comments on this Negative Declaration and Initial Study will be accepted from:

June 19 – July 19, 2017

A public hearing will be held at the Planning Commission meeting of July 25, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.

On June 13, 2017 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Tide in Monterey reference a head-on traffic collision with injuries. One of the drivers, identified as John Mendoza, 20, of Marina, ran away from the scene. Mendoza was contacted a short distance away by a police officer.

This summer, the Monterey Police Department will be dispensing well-deserved Slurpee justice to good kids in Monterey. For the 22nd year, 7-Eleven is working with local police and Sheriff’s departments to distribute free Slurpee drink coupons to children and youth through its popular Operation Chill community-service program.

  • MEASURE P STREETS: Citywide Street Resurfacing/Slurry Phase 5 - The slurry resurfacing portion of work (this phase creates the most impact) is scheduled for October 6 through October 20 for all areas shown on the map. Work continues to get the streets ready for the slurry. Next week this phase of work will finish in the Oak Grove neighborhood. MAP OF STREETS - SEE SPECIAL NOTICE FOR MORE DETAILS
  • MEASURE P: ADA Ramp and Street Reconstruction Phase 4 - Pacific Street Exit from Lighthouse Avenue closed - SEE NEWS RELEASE FOR DETAILS This work also closes Artillery Street. Drivers will need to use Bolio Road.
    - El Dorado Street between Major Sherman Road and Alta Mesa. Paving work is completed; median work still to complete.
    - Littlefield Road work scheduled Mon. through Thu. - (Measure P)
  • Lower Presidio Historic Park Accessible Walkway up to the Sloat Monument (NIP) - estimated completion date is Nov. 6.
  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Crews will be back at the intersection of Pacific and Madison in downtown. Night-work at this intersection -- between the hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. -- is expected to begin on Sunday, October 1st. A second crew will continue pipeline construction in New Monterey on Spencer Street.
