Badge Pinning Ceremony – On May 12, 2017, Monterey Fire recognized eight recruit firefighters for their completion of the Monterey Fire Department academy with a Badge Pinning Ceremony. Congratulations on their achievement that came from hard work and dedication completing an intense 18 week academy with the last week being testing.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Monterey invites sealed bids for furnishing the following:  Lower Presidio Historic Park Improvements.  In general, the work consists of, but is not limited to, clearing and grubbing, sawcutting, demolition of existing improvements, grading, curb and gutter, concrete parking stalls, asphalt conforms, decomposed granite walkway, pavement markings, erosion control, ramps and handrails, and construction of new colored concrete walking paths.

05/16/2017: Portola Plaza Opens - New Entrance to the Monterey Conference Center and Portola Hotel & Spa

The City of Monterey announced today the opening of the Portola Plaza and completion of Phase 1.  The redesign of the Portola Plaza creates a new grand entrance to the Monterey Conference Center, welcoming visitors and residents to this vibrant city center. A new circular drive highlighted through rich and colorful stone pavers will impress future visitors of the conference center, which is scheduled to open in fall 2017.

On May 9,2017 at 12:11 PM, Monterey Police Officers investigated a sexual assault that occurred on Hannon Street at Del Monte Avenue. The incident occurred on May 9, 2017 at approximately 2:30 AM.

On May 8,2017 at 6:37 PM, Monterey Police Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 2400 block of North Fremont Street. The suspect entered the business concealing his identity with a ski mask and demanded money while brandishing a knife. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of money and fled the business in a silver vehicle. There were no injuries reported.

    Daytime tree removal at multiple locations along Holman Highway 68. This work will require traffic control with flagging, so delays are anticipated.
    Work hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.:
    - Tue. and Wed. 05/30 and 5/31 Eastbound Holman Highway 68 at CHOMP
    - Thu. 06/01/17 Eastbound Holman Highway 68 between CHOMP and Skyline Forest Drive
    - Fri. 06/02/17 westbound Highway 68 at Crocker Ave
  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Construction will resume on Jefferson Street and then mid-week will move onto Monroe Street in Monterey. Pipeline installation in Seaside will continue onto Hilby. Pipeline installation in Seaside will continue Fremont Boulevard and Wheeler Street.

  • Highway 68/Highway 1 Roundabout (monterey.org/hh68)
    Next Tuesday night (May 30), crews will close the southbound Highway 1 off-ramp and the section of roadway between Holman Highway 68 and the southbound Highway 1 onramp from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in order to complete the removal of the traffic signal and reconfigure the intersection.
    During the closures:
    Drivers from Monterey wishing to go towards CHOMP/Pacific Grove will need to continue south on Highway 1 to make a U-turn at either Carpenter Street or Ocean Avenue and return to Holman Highway 68 via northbound Highway 1.
    - Drivers from CHOMP/Pacific Grove wishing to go south on Highway 1 towards Carmel will need to continue on northbound Highway 1 and make a U-turn at Munras Avenue or Aguajito Road and return to Carmel via southbound Highway 1. - Drivers from Pebble Beach will be able to make a right turn only out of the Highway 1 Gate towards Carmel.
    - The morning of Wednesday, May 31, the intersection will be controlled by yield signs. | MAP
