The Monterey Police Department has received a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to conduct Minor Decoy operations, Shoulder Tap Programs, and Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendencies (IMPACT) Inspections of ABC licensed businesses.

Challenge Coin Presentation to the Old Monterey Foundation

City Manager Mike McCarthy and Assistant City Manager Hans Uslar present Challenge Coins to Old Monterey Foundation's Bill McCrone and Frank Sollecito for their contributions to the Monterey community. The coins were presented in front of the new Lower Presidio Historic Park sign, designed and made possible by the Old Monterey Foundation and the Rotary Club. The Challenge Coin is a symbol of appreciation given to members of the community who have made a positive impact for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.

On February 12, 2017 at 10:27 PM, Monterey Police Officers responded to the Exxon Gas Station, 398 Fremont in Monterey, regarding an armed robbery that had just occurred.  The suspects fled in a black Dodge Dart prior to police arrival.

The City of Monterey will be accepting applications for the Special Event Grant Program until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 for events scheduled during Fiscal Year 2017-2018 (July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018).

  • Pearl Street Bridge Improvements - replace walk path - 85% complete (CIP)
  • 442 Casanova Avenue Sidewalk reconstruction, stump removal, curb and gutter ADA work - last week of work (CIP)
  • 300 Block of Belden Street Widening ON SCHEDULE - Week six - work is expected to finish in a week or so - SEE CONTRACTOR SCHEDULE AND NOTICE (NIP)
  • MEASURE P: ADA Ramp and Street Reconstruction Phase 4 - El Dorado Street between Major Sherman Road and Alta Mesa. Traffic will be impacted for about four weeks. Work will continue through October. SEE SCHEDULE - Pacific Street Exit from Lighthouse Avenue to close - SEE NEWS RELEASE FOR DETAILS (Measure P)
  • Veteran's Park Bocce Ball Court Contractor done; City crews still working on landscaping, signage, striping, other misc. (NIP)
  • Police Department Lobby Upgrades Work extended into week of Aug. 21, but the lobby should be reopened by Friday.
  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Crews will continue pipeline construction in New Monterey on Lily Street. Additional curb, gutter, and sidewalk work will take place on Fairgrounds Road, and Fremont Street in Monterey.

  • Highway 68/Highway 1 Roundabout (monterey.org/hh68)
    Crews will focus on landscaping, installing additional signs, and completing the trench drain at the driveway to Carmel Hills Professional Center. No closures or detours are planned, but there will occasional shoulder closures for the signs to be installed and occasional flagging for the landscaping work. The Live Camera is Back!     HH68 Roundabout May Take Longer
  • Monterey Bay Aquarium Education Center Construction (Non-City Project) Periodic and Brief Delays on Recreation Trail at Hoffman Avenue Weekdays, July 2017 to Fall 2018
    Days the contractor will be pouring cement, requiring trucks to unload adjacent to the building site and the closure of Hoffman Avenue, starting at 7:30 a.m. and finishing by 4:00 or 5:00 at latest: (Here's the schedule in PDF)
