The Fiscal Year 2017-2018 season for the Neighborhood Improvement Program (NIP) is now open. Residents can submit their projects using the NIP Project Nomination Form, available at monterey.org/NIP. Forms are also available in the Engineering Office, 580 Pacific Street, Room 7, or call (831) 646-3887.

The City of Monterey needs your input on how a bicycle sharing program would work best in Monterey. The City is evaluating if a bicycle sharing program can be an alternative to other modes of transportation. Bicycle sharing will connect people, who prefer not owning a bike, to workplaces, academic and military institutions, and other cities in conjunction with local public transit.

The failure of Pinnacle Workforce Solutions is actively being investigated by the Monterey Police Department in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is in its earliest stages and the detailed reasons for Pinnacle’s collapse are still unclear. In order to fully understand the nature and scope of the matter, the investigating agencies are seeking some preliminary information from Pinnacle’s former clients.

  • Alvarado Street Light Replacement - 26 street lights between Bonifacio and Del Monte - Replacing fixtures with LED lights that are energy efficient and have a very long lifespan. Conforms to the Downtown Master Plan and has dimming capabilities. Starts Monday and expected to take four to six days. Little to no impacts to thoroughfare or noise level. (CIP)
  • Pearl Street Bridge Improvements -  replace walk path  (CIP)
  • 442 Casanova Avenue Sidewalk reconstruction, stump removal, curb and gutter ADA work all week (CIP)
  • 300 Block of Belden Street Widening Week two of 6 to 8 until completion - SEE CONTRACTOR SCHEDULE AND NOTICE (NIP)
  • MEASURE P STORM DRAINS: Citywide Storm Drain Repairs Phase 3 Storm drains on Walter Colton Drive near the school - next up - Soledad Drive at Soledad Place - potential road closure at times - dates still to be determined

  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Pipeline construction will continue Madison Street in Monterey between Van Buren and Pacific Street. Crews will begin mobilization work in Pacific Grove near Sinex and Eardley Avenues. Appurtenance crews will move to Monroe Street in Monterey and continue work on Hilby Avenue. Paving will begin on North Fremont Street between Casa Verde and Hilby Avenues.

  • Highway 68/Highway 1 Roundabout (monterey.org/hh68)
    Next week crews will be focusing landscaping work, sidewalk work, as well as paving along southbound Highway 1 behind the concrete barriers under the Holman Highway 68 overpass. On Tuesday, crews will be pouring concrete for the last splitter island on the southbound highway 1 off-ramp. This work will require closing the free right turn lane of the off-ramp (going towards Pacific Grove) from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Drivers going towards Pacific Grove from the southbound Highway 1 off-ramp will need to proceed to the roundabout and make a right turn onto westbound Holman Highway 68.
    On Friday, crews will be working on a trench drain near the entrance to the Carmel Hills Professional Center, but no lane closure is currently planned for this work.
