Thanks to Public Works crews for taking care of Monterey during the storms

Thank you Monterey Parks & Forestry and Streets crews for responding to storm impacts! Crews mobilized to clear 40+ tree calls in 5 days, and are busy clearing mud and debris from storm drain system and streets.

Lake El Estero had to be lowered six times in the past week. How do they do that? Fleet and Streets Operations Manager Bret Johnson explains, "We have two large diesel engines that power two large pumps that are in an underground pump room. We monitor the weather and if a rain event is imminent, then we will pump the lake down accordingly. During off hours if the lake level reaches 7' 6" an alarm is sent to the alarm company and they notify our crews that are on standby."
