The City of Monterey was honored with two awards and a third nomination at the Clean Air Leaders Awards Ceremony last night, hosted by the Monterey Bay Air Resources District. The awards recognize initiatives undertaken by individuals, organizations and agencies in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties.

06/21/2017: 4th of July in Monterey - Monterey Hosts a Full Day of Festivities, Tuesday, July 4, 2017

The City of Monterey, the Old Monterey Business Association, Monterey County Pops!, and the Monterey Firefighters Association will host a full day of events for family, friends and the whole community this July 4th. Monterey Firefighters will begin the day with a pancake breakfast at Fire headquarters. The festivities continue with the popular downtown Fourth of July Parade, followed by the Big Little Backyard Bar-B-Que and Entertainment Extravaganza on the Colton Hall lawn, topped off with an evening of patriotic music at the Golden State Theatre. These events are open to the public and alcohol free. Events begin at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 8:30 p.m.
     “There’s no better place to enjoy the birthday of our country than Monterey, the birth place of California,” said Mayor Clyde Roberson. “We look forward to joining both residents and visitors in a day-long celebration of our city and country.”

06/20/2017: The City of Monterey Welcomes New Human Resources Director

City Manager Mike McCarthy today announced the appointment of Allyson Hauck as the City’s new Human Resources Director. Hauck was previously a partner with the law firm Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai LLP in San Francisco, practicing in the areas of labor and employment law. She served as the Chief Negotiator for public agencies during collective bargaining with represented employees; the City of Monterey being one of her clients.

The Monterey Police Department (MPD) has received a grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to conduct Impact Inspection. The objective of the inspection was to conduct visits of licensed premises to reduce alcohol related crimes in and around licensed establishments.

The proposed Negative Declaration and Initial Study, as well as referenced documents, are available for review at the City of Monterey, Planning Office, Colton Hall, 1st Floor, 570 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA 93940 and on the City website at: www.monterey.org/planning. In accordance with time limits mandated by State law, written comments on this Negative Declaration and Initial Study will be accepted from:

On June 13, 2017 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Tide in Monterey reference a head-on traffic collision with injuries. One of the drivers, identified as John Mendoza, 20, of Marina, ran away from the scene. Mendoza was contacted a short distance away by a police officer.

This summer, the Monterey Police Department will be dispensing well-deserved Slurpee justice to good kids in Monterey. For the 22nd year, 7-Eleven is working with local police and Sheriff’s departments to distribute free Slurpee drink coupons to children and youth through its popular Operation Chill community-service program.

    Day and Night work
    Thursday, June 22 – Tuesday, June 27 (Day and Night) Those leaving Pebble Beach from the Highway 1 Gate will be able to turn left to access Highway 68 ONLY. The southbound Highway 1 on-ramp will remain CLOSED for the duration. The Highway 1 Gate entrance to Pebble Beach will be OPEN. (Traffic will run on rough, unpaved road near the teardrop island). Wednesday, June 28 (Night: 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.) Night closure of southbound Highway 1 on-ramp, off-ramp, and the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate Gate entrance and exit will be CLOSED. The on-ramp and Highway 1 Gate will be OPEN during the DAY. (Traffic will run on rough, unpaved road near the tear drop island) Thursday, June 29 (Night: 8 p.m. – 6 a.m.) Night closure of the southbound Highway 1 on-ramp, off-ramp, and the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate entrance and exit will be CLOSED. The on-ramp and Highway 1 Gate will be OPEN during the day. During the southbound Highway 1 on-ramp closure, drivers coming from Pacific Grove, Community Hospital, and the Aguajito Road neighborhood who are going towards southbound Highway 1 (towards Carmel) will need to follow the signed detour and head north on Highway 1 to make a U-turn at Munras Avenue. Large trucks and busses are advised to U-turn at Aguajito Road. During the Pebble Beach Highway 1 Gate closures, drivers are advised to use an alternate gate.
