08/15/2017: Vehicle Collision

On 8/15/17 at 12:18 AM, a single vehicle collision occurred in the 2100 block of Del Monte.  The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Del Monte when it left the roadway and struck a low wall.  The resultant damage to the vehicle caused it to immediately catch fire with the sole occupant driver still inside.

The Pacific Street off-ramp from Lighthouse Avenue will be closed from Wednesday, September 6th through Friday, October 6th. The full closure affects the Pacific Street exit from Lighthouse up to the pedestrian overhead bridge.

CITY OF MONTEREY PUBLIC NOTICE CALL FOR SEALED BIDS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Monterey invites sealed bids for furnishing the following:  Citywide Signalized Intersections ADA Upgrade, Phase I.  In general, the work consists of, but is not limited to reconstruction of seven intersections, construction of drainage improvements, striping and signage, and traffic signal and street lighting work.  This work shall include but not be limited to demolition of existing pavement and curb, gutter, and sidewalk construction of catch basins, installation of storm drain pipe, manholes, construction curb and gutter, sidewalk, HMA and PCC paving, HMA overlay, striping and signage, and traffic signal and street lighting improvements.

As a community dedicated to environmental stewardship, the City of Monterey will join the State of California to reduce power consumption between 9 a.m. and 11: 30 a.m. on August 21; the day the first total solar eclipse visible in the contiguous United States since 1979 will temporarily darken skies across the country.

Monterey Car Week is one of the biggest annual events on the Peninsula. This year it begins on August 11. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected, and with them, additional traffic and parking impacts.   • MEASURE P: ADA Ramp and Street Reconstruction Phase 4 - El Dorado Street between Major Sherman Road and Alta Mesa. Traffic will be impacted for about four weeks.   • MEASURE P STORM DRAINS: Citywide Storm Drain Repairs Phase 3 - Soledad Drive at Soledad Place - potential road closure at times - dates still to be determined
  • MEASURE P SIDEWALKS: Citywide Sidewalk Repair Phase 3 - Work is finishing up - punch list items only
  • Wharf II Pile Replacement & Repair - Base job completed. Crews will return in September to complete additional work.(CIP)
  • Veteran's Park Bocce Ball Court Contractor done; City crews still working on landscaping, signage, striping, other misc. (NIP)
  • Police Department Lobby Upgrades Work expected to be done by August 15.
  • Cal Am Monterey Pipeline Project (Non-City Project) - also see www.watersupplyproject.org/
    Pipeline construction will continue on Withers and Lily Streets in New Monterey. Valve installation work will also occur on Monroe and Madison streets. Construction hours are between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays only. Parking and traffic will be limited. Traffic restrictions will be posted.

  • Monterey Bay Aquarium Education Center Construction (Non-City Project) Periodic and Brief Delays on Recreation Trail at Hoffman Avenue Weekdays, July 2017 to Fall 2018
    Days the contractor will be pouring cement, requiring trucks to unload adjacent to the building site and the closure of Hoffman Avenue, starting at 7:30 a.m. and finishing by 4:00 or 5:00 at latest: (Here's the schedule in PDF)
